Hi!! I am writing from the airplane, halfway between IL and VA. I am headed back to my home away from home after having the best time visiting Grandon. The weekend went by way too fast, but it was full of so many precious moments!! There is so much I could and would love to share with you, but I will do my best to keep it short and sweet!!
I had an evening flight on Friday, so by the time I landed and got over to Grandon’s house, it was around 8-9 pm. I am convinced that time passed extra slowww that whole day. I was basically a hot mess and in tears before I even got out of the car (no surprises here though!). He is the sweetest gentleman and was waiting outside for me when I got there, and our reunion hug was medicine to the soul for both of us. We got to spend a few hours that evening sitting on his couch catching up, and eating the yummy yummy snacks in his house from people who brought them to him while he was in the hospital : )
The next day was pumpkin patch day!! Grandon loves the seasons, and he had been telling me for weeks and weeks while he was in the hospital that he wanted to go to the pumpkin patch. I was so happy that he finally got to do that and that I got to be a part of it. We had delicious apple donuts and cider and had a great time walking around. Grandon is such a trooper, and even though he didn’t feel the best, he was just so happy to be there. When we got home that night, we put on a Disney movie and ate homemade pizzas! We made the pizzas together, actually, and then Grandon ate them all by himself;) This guy has quite the chemo appetite and I was full from the apple cider donuts #girldinner, so it worked out perfectly. Quality time is a love language for both of us, so it was perfect to have these slow evenings. I miss them the most when I am at school.
On Sunday morning, we went to church together. It was his first time being able to go to church since he got sick, and I was so in awe of all of the amazing people who loved on him and wanted to hear all about how he was doing. He has such a strong church family supporting him. We got to spend some time at my house with my parents that afternoon, which was so fun for my parents, Grandon, and me. The last time my parents saw him was when he was still in the hospital, so I know it was special for them to get to see him up and out. Then we went back to Grandon’s house that night to watch the Bears game with his family! #gobears! I have no idea how football works and I wasn’t really even paying attention to who won or lost, but I loved spending time with the Mitchell fam.
Just like that, it was time for our goodbyeee : ( I was once again a hot mess lol! Grandon always has such wise words and great perspective when we say goodbye, but it never gets easier for either of us. The good news is that we only have to wait 23 days until my next visit home!! I feel so blessed and grateful that I got to go home this weekend and I will treasure these memories forever. Every moment was such a gift!!
Lots of love,
Lizzy

It sounds like you had a really special weekend, Lizzy! It’s so good to hear about all the love and support around Grandon, and I’m sure your parents were overjoyed to see him doing well. Spending time with family is always a blessing, and even though goodbyes are tough, the countdown to your next visit gives you something great to look forward to. Please tell Grandon we are wishing him all the best and he’ll come out of this stronger than ever. God is good!!!!
