Hi! Spring break is over, and now I’m on the last stretch of long distance with Grandon for the school year.
Just wanted to write a quick post about Spring Break. The day I came home (Friday, March 7th) was the day after Grandon finally got out of the hospital after a month! We’ve had this ongoing joke throughout his entire cancer journey that he only ever has hospital stays when I’m out of town, never when I’m home. So far, it’s been accurate every single time—funny how God works that out.
The downside was that I had the flu when I got home, and with Grandon’s immune system so weak, I had to wait an extra six days to see him. It was the worst! I went to urgent care, and my mom and I begged the doctor to do anything and everything to get me better. She loaded me up with medicine, and my mom took great care of me.
Once I was finally healthy, I got to see Grandon. We had so much to catch up on since we barely talked while he was in the hospital—basically a whole month’s worth. We also watched lots of movies (Moana 2, Inside Out 2, Spider-Man). But the best part… Grandon had his first outing since getting out of the hospital, and it was also our first date in months. <3 We went to a small local Mexican restaurant. A year ago, that would’ve felt like no big deal, but this year, it was something I had prayed for so many times.
Our time together was short but so refreshing. Since being back, so many people have asked how it was, and I’m just really grateful for everyone, both here and at home, who have been praying for him and encouraging me.
I would love to tell you about what his next phase of treatment entails, but I have no idea yet. I think he meets with his doctor this week to find out. Thank you for your continued prayers for him through this.
Summer is so close. Can’t wait! Here’s to the last stretch!
